Hello! My name is Kevin Rasmussen and I am excited to be the new Director of Camp Ministries at Lakeside. Here are a few quick things about myself and our family.

I’m a native of Chicago. When I was younger I heard the Gospel at Lake Geneva Youth Camp in Wisconsin. I did not come from a Christian home and what I heard and saw there has changed my life forever.

I was saved in the fall of 1979 and went to Emmaus after graduating high school. I attended Emmaus in Oak Park in 1982, took two years off and finished when the school moved to Dubuque, graduating in 1988. I have a diploma in Bible and Christian Education.

While there I met someone you might know. Laurel Scott, from Vancouver, BC was involved in TCL for several years during the mid 1980’s. She heard the Gospel through Hollyburn Christian Fellowship in Vancouver and got involved at LBC shortly after becoming a Christian. We were married in December of 1988 and lived in Seattle for our first two years together. We have three children, all of whom have trusted Christ as their Savior and have also been involved at various camps.

Over the years I have worked in a few different worlds: the last 15 years in insurance, most recently for Hartford Insurance Company. I’ve also been involved in restaurant management (including Pagliacci in Seattle) and also worked several years in construction. Laurel has worked at Emmaus and at Wheaton College.

We are very dedicated to the Assemblies and camping ministry. We have been involved at a number of levels at Lake Geneva Youth Camp for several years. I currently teach Sunday School for junior high kids at our chapel. I’ve also been involved with leading Bible studies, preaching and have served as a deacon and an elder in the past.

I’m looking forward to working with you as we get involved in the ministry at LBC that has been going on for so many years. Let’s be in prayer together for a great 2008 camp season and for God’s continued leading in the ministry.

A dear friend has been taken home to heaven. Karen Gullberg, energetic and encouraging mother to Scott (& Melissa), Luke, and Becky, and beloved wife of Rod, has left her cancer-ridden body and gone to be with her dear Lord and Savior.

The news came during the TCL reunion which she would have been a part of. Many of our hearts ached when learning of her passing. Please pray for the Gullbergs; Karen has left a legacy of endurance, faithfulness, and love, and they face the rest of their lives without her. Pray for her church body, who has lost a vital member and servant. Pray for LBC, who has lost a dedicated girls’ camp and TCL director and speaker. And Praise God that his will and timing are perfect, that we were privileged to know and love her, and that we can look forward to the day when we will be reunited. Pray that hope will still light the way in the darkness.

Being back @ LBC is such a blessing. Previously I thought I’d rather be back home withmy friends, but so far this experience has been so gratifying and unforgetable.

I learn so much @ LBC, things that are hard to come by any here else. Being here for a whle week with no cell phone, computer, care, all the things youuse everyday has been great. I don’t miss those tings one bit while I’m here. The older I get the faster time passes it’s hard to explain how I fell at the moment but I wish I could stay here all summer. The kids are even more of a blessing, I got the best kids here hands down. I will never forget them. They’re a bunch of little sailors they will go for it in life.

Another thing about LBC is having the chance to meet new people, experience is wealth and by meeting new people constantly is gaining tons of experience. I always think twice while I’m here, about life mainly and the future. How I can use my time here to get more educated and apply it all to my life and future. Never a dull moment here, I’m very thankful for camp!!!

Maybe next time my kids will take showers and wear deoderant!

An anonymous cabin leader from boys camp.

There are several ways to take care of the financial part of coming to camp.

1. Scholarships. Lakeside offers scholarships for all of our camps. If you need a scholarship to come to camp you must first contact Kevin Craig at 360-341-4170 or at Lakeside@whidbey.com.

2. Payment Plans. Another way to pay for camp is to send in payments. You may “bank your dollars” at LBC for either a winter camp or a summer camp. You may make monthly payments over several months and then before you know it your week at camp is paid for. Contact Kevin to set up your plan today. GREAT IDEA!

3. Bring a Friend to Camp. When your son or daughter, a current LBC Youth camper in grades 3-6 who has already attended an LBC youth or family camp, invites a brand new camper, we will give you a 50% discount on your child’s camp fee. If they invite 2 or more full paying campers, your son or daughter goes for FREE. This special only applies to our winter 2007, Boy’s and Girls Weekend Away Camps. Check out the link below to get the full details.
