Prayer Warrior #2 - Family Camp I
Pray for Fathers
The week of Family Camp 1 is one of my favorite weeks of camp. It’s a vacation for many, but it’s also mission to transform families in the truth of Jesus. LBC has almost 30 families with us this week enjoying the good weather on Deer Lake. So what type of families spend their vacations at a Bible Camp? Based on the conversation at the men’s coffee, it seems that we have a variety of first, second, and third generation believers. It was a great morning to see guys share about their unque journeys to faith in Christ. Some had been impacted as a child here at LBC, others were new to the faith as recent as 18 months ago. Regardless of our spiritual age, there was great fellowship because of the work of Jesus Christ. I am praying that this week of camp can be a great vacation for these dads and also that it would add significant spiritual value to deepen their faith. Please be praying that these fathers would be strengthened in their spirits to walk closely with Christ. Pray that God would use them to model the peace of Christ within their families.
Devotional thought from Mark
The gospel of Mark presents many antagonists to the mission of Jesus Christ. Mark uses their voice in the story to help the reader realize the significance of the here. Jesus was more than just a traveling preacher, He was also God in human flesh. As you read through this gospel, you will find these opponents shaping our understanding of Jesus by how they describe Him. In Mark 1:24 it is the unclean spirit that says to Jesus, “I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” In Mark 2:7, it is the scribes who were thinking, “Who can forgive sins except God alone?” And at the end of the gospel it is the Centurion who testifies at the cross, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” I find this to be an interesting motif strung together by the author. It is a method that forces me to slow down in my reading and think about the significance of their testimony. After all, a Roman Centurion would have weighty testimony in a court of law and if he can be convinced of the authenticity of Jesus, than surely I as the reader should believe the Good News that Jesus is the one true Son of God. Please pray that God would use this week to help campers know with certainty that Jesus truly is the Son of God.
Things to Pray for
Pray for marriages to be healed.
Pray that our speaker, David Cotrell. Pray for his endurance and clarity of mind. Pray for his ministry impact this week.
Many kids and teens from Family Camp eventually come back to serve on Summer Staff. Maybe it’s because of the impact that the Staff make on them during VBS. Pray that our Summer Staff would have a great week serving these kiddos.
Pray for the Salmon Bake on Wednesday. We’re expecting several visitors to camp. Pray for their travel safety. Pray for the weather to be spectacular during the dinner at 6:00pm. If you want to come, please sign up here.
This week we are introducing the “On Your Mark” patch to the families. The hope is that kids would see mom and dad memorizing Scripture with them during the week. Pray that God’s Word would be sown in these families.
Meet the Speaker
Our speaker this week is really a marriage team. Dave and Kathy Cottrell last served as our Family Camp speakers. In the morning, Dave has been teaching on Romans, what he calls the 5th Gospel. In the evening Kathy joins Dave on stage and they have been speaking the truths of Scripture to the couples. They both have served on staff with CRU (Campus Crusade) since 1999. In 2023 they joined the FamilyLife ministry of Cru where they help administrate the Weekend to Remember conferences. On Sunday night they flew into SeaTac having come from one of these marriage conferences where they had 1100 people getting equipped to have Christ-centered homes. Last night Dave shared his most important principle for marriage, which is that we must first prioritize the most important relationship within a marriage—that is our relationship with Christ. Please be praying for the Cottrells as they counsel couples this week. We are blessed to have them serving at LBC.
