Prayer Warrior #8 - Jr. High Camp
Jr. High is an important age for teens to figure out what they believe and why. In today’s culture teens are faced with all kinds of pressure to conform to the patterns of this world. That is why our speaker for this week, Lydio Banana, chose to speak through the book of Daniel. It’s a book where the characters face pressure to change and become like the Babylonians around them. The book gives us stories of how Daniel and his friends chose to fear God above all else. Pray that these campers would lean forward in chapel to hear about God’s Word and focus on what matters.
One of the reasons we go through the trouble of making sure campers leave their phones at home is because we want the experience at LBC to be an oasis from the information pushed by society. A week of camp redirects the attention from screens to team sports, games, friendships, fun—and most importantly the truth of the Gospel. Pray that this week of rest from the world would cause them to engage with the Spirit’s prompting.
Much like last year, this year we are seeing a significant influx of wasps and hornets around camp. It’s making it challenging to play some of our classic camp games such as hide & seek and capture the flag. Directors are having to recalibrate their game plans to avoid overwhelming the first-aid room. Pray that God would keep the wasps at bay and keep these campers from getting stung. Pray that we can find the nests before the nests find us.
This is a great week for 1-1s and quiet times. We have a full camp of 120 campers. We also have a full crew of 24 cabin leaders, so each cabin gets two leaders per side-cabin. That means that each camper can have 2 or more 1-1s with a cabin leader this week. This week we also have an additional layer of help with Mike & Evangelina Vederoff serving as Cabin Leaders at large. They are finding ways each day to connect with the teens for deep conversations and follow-up to the chapel messages. Please pray that the 1-1s would be meaningful and fruitful for the Kingdom of God.
