Prayer Warrior #3 - Family Camp I

Family Camp 1 started with a blast of the shofar and 124 campers. We expect more than 60 extra people to join us for the Salmon Bake. (You can register here). It’s a full week and we are happy to see the camp full and families enjoying this wonderful place.

Our speaker, Brian Ingraham, is taking the audience through the Songs of Ascent (Psalm 120-134) and helping us understand the layout of the land of Israel. His point in this morning’s chapel was that every tribe had it’s own trial of faith—lack of water, displacing enemies, protection, etc. The land by itself was not super desirable compared to other areas in the Middle East along the fertile crescent. Yet God put Israel in a location that is a crossroad for travel. None of us has the perfect situation. God puts obstacles in front of each of us that require faith, and God uses our surroundings to develop our trust in him each and every day.

Last year when I pictured the theme for this summer, The Journey Up, I thought about Jewish families traveling across the land to get to the temple mount to worship, sacrifice, and fellowship. I considered how God built the Jewish festivals into the regular rhythm of the calendar year, and I considered how the journey displayed one’s faith in trusting God for safety, edification, and blessing. It was a time for the people to come together to share their lives and to continue to cultivate relationships with one another. I picture that to be a similar experience to Family Camp (without the animal sacrifices of course). Family Camp for these families is a vacation, but it is also a time for the families to come together in worship and experience God together.

The Summer Crew, TCL, Cooks, and Core Staff are serving and praying that these families are built together in Christ. We’re praying that the kids at VBS would have one of their greatest vacations learning about the stories in God’’s Word. Pray that marriages would be strengthened (and healed). Pray that when we come together again at camp, we would all share stories of how God is working in and through our lives to reach the world for the Kingdom of God.
