The Perfect Ruler

He sees you when you’re sleeping,
He knows when you’re awake,
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
Oh you better watch out, you better not cry
You better not pout, I’m tellin’ you why…

Jesus is everything you want Santa to be, but better. Isaiah predicts a better ruler than Santa Clause would come from the line of David—The Messiah. Here is 11:2-4, all the attributes of the Holy Spirit—wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge, fear of the LORD, righteousness, justice, discernment—would rest upon the Messiah. Jesus is better at watching over you than good ol’ Saint Nick. His record of right and wrong is perfect, just as He is perfect.

While Santa Clause only comes once a year. The Messiah has come and sent us His Spirit to live with us all the time. The Holy Spirit lives with us—convicting us of sin and leading us to righteousness. And just as Isaiah looked forward to the coming Messiah, we still look to Jesus as the One will make all things right.

This passage is a good reminder that there is no one else who matches the perfection of Jesus Christ. You can’t replace Him with anyone, including Santa.

Have a great Sunday!
