Stop & Wonder
None of us can make the claim, “I was there at the beginning” or “I existed before time began.” God leaves us to wonder and to consider how things started. Thinking of Christmas draws us to remember that Jesus came as a baby, but John opens up his gospel telling us that Jesus actually existed before it all began. What we see in our world, points us back to a pre-existent Creator. When we lay down and consider the stars and the wonders of the Universe, we know that Jesus made it all come about at the utterance of His divine Word. The Christmas season helps us stop and wonder. Wondering causes us to recognize that someone greater than ourselves came before us. Wondering leads us to belief, and then to worship and praise.
This just so happens to be one of the things that makes camp great. We spend too much time in front of screens. At a place like Lakeside, kids get asked to leave their screen devices at home. It brings their attention to an environment that fosters wonder. They get the experience at LBC of turning their eyes to His Creation. So we teach them that Jesus existed before time began. That He came as a man. He lived a sinless life. He suffered and died for our sins. It is entirely because of his work, that all we have to do is put our trust in Him and that he did everything he said he would do according to His word.
Pray for campers to be drawn to WONDER at LBC for the coming weekend retreats.
Pray that God would use this season to prepare the hearts of cabin leaders.
Pray that God would give us some amazing nights to see the many stars that he put in place.
I hope you’ll take some time today and let yourself stop and wonder. Even if it is less than five minutes, force yourself to stop from your busy life to let your mind marvel at what God has done.
