The True Light

Building fires takes work. When I normally build a fire in my home, it’s to create ambiance. This last month when the power at camp was out for 85 hours, it became essential to keep the fire going. The job of keeping the fire turned into a constant cycle of collecting wood, making kindling, bringing the wood into the house. I’d start the fire and then forget to put a log on, so an hour later I would be restarting the fire. The fire brought valuable warmth and light to our home, but it took constant attention to keep it going.

John the Baptist came as a witness to the True Light. Jesus came into the Word as the light from light and true God from true God. His light is not extinguishable. His light is eternally existent and dependable. You cannot work for the light. His light is given to all who believe in Him and to those who receive His name. Once you have Him, He will not let you go. You are His and He will watch over you, guide you, and protect you in every moment of your life. As Psalm 121 closes: “He will keep you from all harm, the LORD will watch over your life. He will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.”

God keeps a place like Lakeside going because it is a place where the gospel is shared. We do not force it on anyone. We just try to make it as understandable and true as we can present it. The gospel is a passion of ours and we love doing what we get to do.

Thank you for praying for campers and for this camp. It takes many people to make a place like this work. A few of us get to work here, but many more participate by volunteering, praying, giving, and helping us find new campers to introduce the gospel to. Thank you. It’s a team effort.
